Honoring and Cherishing My Mother

Updated: Jan 19, 2023

Like many of you, I lost my Mother a few years ago and each year around the anniversary of her passing I am consumed with memories of her. She was the most important person in my life and an inspiration to me and many others. She was a kind, strong, patient woman. My Mother was also a great listener, and she would always take the time to sit down and talk with, always ready to listen, never judging. She was a hard worker and worked tirelessly beside my Father creating a successful business as well as raising seven children.

My Mother had a great sense of humor and loved to have fun. I remember she would get the giggles and couldn’t stop, soon everyone was laughing with her. Such precious memories of such an incredible woman, I miss her every day. I will be forever grateful for all that she taught me and the gifts she gave me just by watching how she interacted in the world.

I will always cherish the memories I have of my Mother, her grace and her beauty will always be with me as will the last few days of her life when she slowly passed from this life to the next.

I have read that remembering the person who has passed away is one way to cope with the loss, and it can bring a sense of comfort and healing. This past summer I was able to write a poem honoring my Mother in the final days of her life.

Gracious

Gracious is like the aging mother flowing

radiantly in the final stage of her life

Calmness surrounds her knowing she is

loved and has loved, she is blessed

She is at peace as her light slowly moves

from this life to the next

Head held high

There is a knowing, all is well

There is a luminous light ~

the room is filled with

Peace & Serenity

Once again she passes the gift of

being gracious to her daughter

Knowing her daughter will begin

her own gracious journey into

the next Chapter of her Life

Honoring a Mother you have lost can be a way to remember and cherish her memory

Honoring someone you lost is a bittersweet experience, as it can be a difficult reminder of the person who is no longer in your life. Yet, honoring this person can be a beautiful way to celebrate and remember their life, and it can provide some solace and comfort during a difficult time. Everyone has different ways of honoring someone they have lost, and there are many ways to do this. One way to honor someone you lost is to write about them. Writing about the person can help to capture their essence and capture the memories you have of them. You may choose to write a poem, a letter, or an essay about the person. Writing can be a powerful way to express your emotions and your love for the person. Another way to honor someone you lost is to create a memorial. This can be done through a physical memorial such as a plaque or a memorial garden. You can also create a virtual memorial online, such as a website or social media page dedicated to the person. This can be a place to share memories and photos, or a place to go to remember the person. You can also honor someone you lost through service. Volunteering in a cause or organization that the person cared about can be a meaningful way to pay tribute to them. Participating in a fundraiser or donating to a charity in their name can also be a great way to honor the person. Sharing stories can be another way to honor someone you lost. Talking about the person with friends, family, and other loved ones can help to keep their memory alive. Sharing stories, photos, and memories can be a powerful way to feel connected to the person and preserve their memory. Finally, honoring someone you lost can also be done through your own personal rituals. This could be something as simple as lighting a candle in remembrance or taking a moment to reflect on the person’s life. It could also be something more elaborate such as hosting a gathering in their honor or taking a trip in their memory. Honoring someone you lost is a deeply personal experience. Everyone has their own ways of honoring the people they have lost and there is no right or wrong way to do it. Taking the time to reflect on their life and celebrate their memory can be a powerful way to honor them and find some peace.
