Have you tried Keto?

What is a keto diet? If you don’t know what a keto diet basically it is a low carb, high-fat diet that has been proven to be an effective way to lose weight and improve overall health. I started the keto diet about 5 years ago and I loved how I felt on it as well as the added bonus of my weight-loss. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular diets in the world.

How does a keto diet work?

The keto diet is based on the idea that when you reduce your carbohydrate intake and increase your fat intake your body will switch to burning fat for energy. This means that your body will start to use stored fat as its main energy source, which leads to weight loss. It does take a week or two to make this switch, when it does the weight loss results are amazing. The fat seems to dissolve in all the areas you want it to.

Here are some benefits and disadvantages to the keto diet.

What are the benefits of a keto diet?

· The keto diet has a wide range of health benefits such as lowering inflammation, which is linked to a variety of chronic diseases. It can improve your cognitive function, as it can help to reduce mental fog and improve focus. Additionally, the keto diet can improve energy levels and reduce fatigue, which can be beneficial for people who are looking to lead an active lifestyle. The most important benefit of the keto diet is its ability to promote weight loss.

· The keto diet has also been found to be beneficial for athletes. A recent study showed that athletes who followed a keto diet had improved performance compared to those on a non-keto diet. This is likely due to the fact that the keto diet can increase fat burning and improve energy levels.

· I found the keto diet reduced my bloating after a big meal. Once I was finished my meal that was it, no uncomfortableness!

· Finally, the keto diet can also be beneficial for people with diabetes. The keto diet is known to improve insulin sensitivity, which can help to reduce blood sugar levels. This is also important for people like me as I suffered from sugar spikes and crashes. The keto diet keeps me from having those high jittery peaks and the dreaded crashes that come after them.

· Overall, the keto diet is an effective way to lose weight and improve overall health. It has a wide range of health benefits, from reducing inflammation and improving cognitive function to increasing energy levels and improving insulin sensitivity.

· Additionally, it can be beneficial for athletes and those with diabetes. For these reasons, the keto diet is quickly becoming one of the most popular diets in the world.

What are the disadvantages of a keto diet?

While the low carb, high fat keto diet has been shown to be effective for some people, it is important to be aware of the potential disadvantages of following this diet.

  • One of the most common side effects of the keto diet is the “keto flu.” This is the feeling of fatigue, brain fog, and irritability that some people experience when first beginning the diet. This is due to the body adjusting to the sudden decrease in carbohydrates and increase in fat intake. These symptoms can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Try increasing your salt intake or drink more water. If I found the nausea interfering with important events in my day I would take an anti-nausea pill and it seemed to work well and helped me get through my work day.

  • Another potential disadvantage of the keto diet is that it can be difficult to maintain long-term. It is so opposite to the way most of us have been eating. Following a diet that is very high in fat and low in carbohydrates can be difficult adjust to and sustain over the long term. The restrictive nature of the diet can be difficult to maintain. I found it was very hard to maintain while traveling although there are more and more keto options available. If I did fall off the diet it was fairly easy to refocus and pick it up again.

  • Additionally, it can be difficult to get enough nutrients and vitamins on the keto diet, as many of the fruits, vegetables, and grains that provide these essential nutrients are typically avoided on the diet. A keto diet is low in bulk forming fiber which can be a factor in dehydration. It is important to keep your water intake up.

  • In some cases the keto diet has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease due to the high fat content and possibly kidney stones. Additionally, those with kidney or liver disease should avoid the keto diet as it can put an additional strain on these organs.

In conclusion, the keto diet has many potential benefits, but it is important to be aware of the potential disadvantages as well. While it can be effective for some people, others may experience uncomfortable side effects or be at an increased risk of certain health conditions due to the high-fat content of the diet. It is important to talk to your doctor before beginning any new diet to make sure it is right for you.

Wendy’s words for you…..It has been my experience that the keto diet is a healthy way of life. I feel best when I am actively on it although I still seem to take a break once in awhile to get my vegetable and carb fix. I think it is because of all my years of eating a high carb diet. I am finding more and more ready to eat keto products available which are a possible option for when you are on the go. I suggest it is still a much healthier version trying some of the many keto receipes available and creating your own list of on the go foods. I highly recommend trying the keto diet for 2 or 3 months and see how you feel. If you do decide to stop in order not to put the weight back on, try to introduce healthy carbs slowly.
